Recommended Websites How A Car Cooling System Works All car engines release an enormous amount of heat because of the burning of fuel. This heat conversion is necessary to run a car. When the engine is cold, its components wear out faster and the engine becomes less efficient and emits more pollution. If not controlled, the exreme heat can destroy the engine in a matter of minutes. To prevent that from happening, the use of a car cooling system is necessary. The primary job of this equipment is to keep the engine from overheating by transferring the heat to the air. It also regulates the engine temperature to a proper operating range, allowing the engine to heat up and keep the engine at a constant temperature. The modern car cooling system has not changed much from the cooling systems in the old model vehicles. There are two types of cooling systems found on automobiles today. The first type is the "liquid cooling system," which is quite common in cars and trucks. In this particular car cooling system, a fluid is sent through pipes and passageways in the engine. As the liquid coolant flows through these passages, it absorbs the heat from the engine. Afterwards, the heated fluid passes through the radiator and is cooled by the air stream beforeentering the engine compartment from the grill in front of the car. The fluid keeps on moving through this system. The other type is the "air cooling system." This can usually be found in vintage cars and some modern motorcycles. Instead of fluid, the engine block is covered in aluminum fins that remove the heat away from the cylinder. A powerful fan forces air over these fins, cooling the engine by transferring the heat to the air. Automotive
